FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I get started?
We know that making the decision to try therapy is a difficult one, and you may be filled with anticipation, nervousness, and uncertainty about what will happen next. To begin the process, you may want to check out our counselors to see if there is a particular therapist with whom you would like to meet, though it is not necessary to know which therapist you want to see. We can match you up with the therapist who would be best for you. Next, go to SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT and give us your information so that a Ministry Assistant can contact you to set up an appointment. You may also call the office at 601-939-6634 or email us.
Do you accept insurance?
CCC is a network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi, and we will be happy to file your claim for you. If you have a different insurance provider, your therapist can give you a receipt so that you can file the claim. Your health insurance is a contract between you and your insurer. Therefore, you must assume responsibility for payment regardless of what your insurance company pays.
What is Christian counseling?
Secular therapists are trained not to bring their personal values into the therapy room and to be neutral with every person in every situation. Coming from a faith-based perspective, we view the Bible as our authoritative source, and our counsel finds its foundation in Scripture. We know that a person’s spiritual life is an essential part of his or her personal growth. Our counselors carry themselves professionally and will treat you with honor and respect wherever you are in your spiritual pilgrimage.
Do I have to be a Christian to come?
We are a group of counselors who are Christian, and we counsel with a Christian perspective. You do not have to have the same beliefs that we do in order to benefit from our services.
What should I do to prepare for therapy?
Think about what you would like to get out of therapy by considering goals that you have for yourself or your relationships. Answer the question, “I will feel that counseling will be effective if I accomplish _______________.”
What is play therapy?
Play therapy is a way to help children who are experiencing problems with trauma, anger, grief, divorce, acting-out behaviors, family or relational problems, and school difficulties. Children can work out problems through the language of play in a way that they cannot with words. Expressive therapies such as art and play therapy are ideal for helping get to the heart of problems and bringing healing when “talking it out” is ineffective. Our playroom is a safe and understanding environment in which the therapist encourages the child to play as he or she wishes using a wide variety of toys that encourage the expression of emotional concerns.
How long does each session last?
Each session typically lasts 60 minutes, the initial appointment normally lasts 90 minutes. Depending on the type of therapy that is best for you, your therapist may schedule you for a 90 minute session.
How frequently do I need to come in for therapy?
The majority of clients benefit the most from weekly appointments. After your initial assessment, you and your therapist can decide upon the best plan for you, including how often you need to come to therapy.
How long does it generally take to go through the therapy I need?
This is a difficult question to answer because each person’s situation is unique. Short-term therapies tend to be geared to meet specific goals and needs and is more structured and directive. With this type of therapy, clients may find that 5-7 sessions are sufficient. Long-term therapies address specific goals and behaviors as well but go deeper to understand the origins of feelings and behaviors. Long-term therapy is well-suited to address pervasive feelings and issues that may be more subtle. During your initial assessment, ask your therapist what would be best for you with regards to your goals.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
We follow the fee schedule set by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Because we are affiliated with the Rankin Baptist Association, we may be able to offer a reduced rate to you if you were referred to CCC by a church that is a member of the Rankin Baptist Association.
